Synano NanoCoolant™ EG is a ready-to-use ethylene glycol and water heat transfer fluid enhanced with aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) nanoparticles. Available in five concentration variants from 20% to 50% v/v, it covers industrial process cooling, HVAC chilled water systems, engine cooling, CHPs, and any closed-loop application where a conventional EG coolant is currently in use.
Developed by Synano’s thermal engineering team, building on research at Delft University of Technology, the formulation combines a proven EG base with alumina selected for its chemical stability, long-term suspension performance, and superior thermal properties relative to alternative nanomaterials.
Compared to an equivalent conventional EG-water mixture, Synano NanoCoolant™ EG transfers more heat at lower pressure drop. Thermal conductivity increases by up to 8% across concentrations while dynamic viscosity simultaneously decreases by up to 1.3%. The combined effect yields a 5 to 7% improvement in convective heat transfer coefficient under forced laminar flow, without modifying the heat exchanger, without increasing pump power, and without changing operating procedures.
REACH compliant, classified under EU CLP, and validated to ASTM D1384. Proven across more than five years of testing.
Up to 8% higher thermal conductivity than conventional EG-water blends across all concentrations. More heat removed at the same flow rate.
Dynamic viscosity is reduced compared to the equivalent base fluid. Less pump work, lower pressure drop, easier flow through heat exchangers and tight system geometries.
Inhibitor package included and tested against common heat exchanger materials. Compatible with aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel. Protects metals and seals across the full operating range.
Stable in both static and flow conditions. Less than 5% sedimentation over five years of monitored static storage. Survives freeze-thaw without permanent settling.
Works with standard pumps, heat exchangers, seals (EPDM, Viton, silicone, nitrile), and common metals. No redesign, no system modification required.
Harmful if swallowed (CLP). Non-carcinogenic, non-bioaccumulative. Synano operates a spent-fluid take-back program for nanoparticle recovery and glycol recycling.
All values measured to ASTM standards. Thermal conductivity and TC improvement shown are averages across the operating temperature window (25°C to 55°C). Viscosity and density reference values are at 40°C. Values shown are for the nano-enhanced fluid.
| Concentration | Thermal conductivity (mW/m·K) | Dynamic viscosity (cP) | Density (kg/m³) | Freeze point (°C) | Boil point (°C) | Average TC improvement vs. base (25–55°C) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20% EG | 545 | 1.02 | 1,031 | −8 | 103.0 | +5.2% |
| 25% EG | 523 | 1.16 | 1,038 | −11 | 103.5 | +5.2% |
| 30% EG | 512 | 1.34 | 1,054 | −13 | 103.7 | +6.9% |
| 40% EG | 463 | 1.77 | 1,066 | −24 | 104.4 | +5.4% |
| 50% EG | 428 | 2.30 | 1,084 | −36 | 107.0 | +8.2% |
Specific heat capacity ranges from 4,047 J/kg·K at 20% to 3,656 J/kg·K at 50% v/v.

Synano NanoCoolant™ EG is designed for closed-loop thermal management. Select the concentration for your application.
20 – 25% conc: Maximum thermal transfer possible with even lower viscosity. The preferred range for industrial process loops, engine cooling, and CHP primary circuits.
25 – 40% conc: Reliable freeze protection to −24°C with maximum heat-transfer performance. Suited to solar thermal collectors, CHPs, and heavy equipment in moderately cold conditions.
40 – 50% conc: Freeze protection to −36°C with improved energy efficiency across seasonal operating cycles.
Synano NanoCoolant™ EG is supplied ready to use at the selected concentration, with no dilution or mixing required.
Pre-treatment of the system loop is mandatory before filling. Flush with Synano Pre-Treatment Agent to remove residual chemicals, metallic ions, and prior inhibitor packages. Flush with demineralized water and drain.
Fill at the required concentration. After commissioning, no further fluid maintenance is needed.
Harmful if swallowed, do not ingest. Handle with appropriate precautions. Wear nitrile gloves during handling. Flush any skin or eye contact with water. Store sealed in a cool, dry, ventilated area between 5°C and 40°C.
