Synano NanoCoolant™ PG is a ready-to-use propylene glycol and water heat transfer fluid enhanced with aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) nanoparticles. Available in six concentration variants from 10% to 50% v/v, it covers direct-to-chip data center cooling, industrial process loops, HVAC chilled water systems, and any closed-loop application where a conventional PG coolant is currently in use.
Developed by Synano’s thermal engineering team, building on research at Delft University of Technology, the formulation combines a proven PG base with alumina selected for its chemical stability, established non-toxicity, and superior thermal properties relative to alternative nanomaterials.
Compared to an equivalent conventional PG-water mixture, Synano NanoCoolant™ PG transfers more heat at lower pressure drop. Thermal conductivity increases by up to 6.5% across all concentrations while dynamic viscosity simultaneously decreases by up to 2.7%. The combined effect yields a 5 to 7% improvement in convective heat transfer coefficient under forced laminar flow, without modifying the heat exchanger, without increasing pump power, and without changing operating procedures.
REACH compliant, non-hazardous under EU CLP, and validated to ASTM D1384. Proven across more than five years of testing.
Up to 6.5% higher thermal conductivity than conventional PG-water blends across all concentrations. More heat removed at the same flow rate.
Dynamic viscosity falls by up to 2.7% compared to the equivalent base fluid. Less pump work, lower pressure drop, easier flow through cold plates and tight geometries.
Validated against six metals to ASTM D1384 at 88°C over 336 hours. Corrosion inhibitor package tuned specifically for the alumina formulation. Compatible with aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel.
Stable in both static and flow conditions. Less than 5% sedimentation over five years of monitored static storage. Survives freeze-thaw without permanent settling.
Works with standard pumps, cold plates, seals (EPDM, Viton, silicone, nitrile), and common metals. No redesign needed. Flush the loop with Synano Pre-Treatment Agent before filling.
Non-toxic, non-flammable, non-carcinogenic, non-bioaccumulative. Synano operates a spent-fluid take-back program for nanoparticle recovery and glycol recycling.
All values measured to ASTM standards. Thermal conductivity and TC improvement shown are averages across the operating temperature window (25°C to 55°C). Viscosity and density reference values are at 40°C. Values shown are for the nano-enhanced fluid.
| Concentration | Thermal conductivity (mW/m·K) | Dynamic viscosity (cP) | Density (kg/m³) | Freeze point (°C) | Boil point (°C) | Average TC improvement vs. base (25–55°C) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20% PG | 536 | 1.18 | 1,011 | −7 | 100.5 | +5.1% |
| 25% PG | 519 | 1.40 | 1,021 | −10 | 101.2 | +6.3% |
| 30% PG | 485 | 1.60 | 1,020 | −13 | 102.2 | +5.4% |
| 40% PG | 437 | 2.17 | 1,028 | −22 | 103.8 | +5.9% |
| 50% PG | 388 | 3.50 | 1,028 | −35 | 105.5 | +5.0% |
Specific heat capacity ranges from 4,047 J/kg·K at 20% to 3,656 J/kg·K at 50% v/v.

Synano NanoCoolant™ PG is designed for closed-loop thermal management. Select the concentration for your application.
20 – 25% conc: Higher heat transfer at the lowest pump power. The preferred range for direct-to-chip and cold-plate loops with freeze protection requirements.
25 – 40% conc: Non-toxic, non-flammable, and compatible with food-adjacent and pharmaceutical environments where EG-based coolants cannot be specified.
40 – 50% conc: Freeze protection to −22°C or −35°C. Improved coil efficiency versus conventional PG blends at the same concentration.
Synano NanoCoolant™ PG is supplied ready to use at the selected concentration. No dilution or mixing required.
Pre-treatment of the system loop is mandatory before filling. Flush with Synano Pre-Treatment Agent to remove residual chemicals, metallic ions, and prior inhibitor packages.
Flush with demineralized water and drain. Fill at the required concentration. After commissioning, no further fluid maintenance is needed.
Non-toxic and safe to handle under standard industrial conditions. Wear nitrile gloves during handling. Flush any skin or eye contact with water. Store sealed in a cool, dry, ventilated area between 5°C and 40°C.
